Right, so now that we have enough people for this, I'll explain how this will work. This is an 8 person single elimination tournament. The format is Gen 7 OU, and you are required to build your own teams. If you need help with this, I'll post some resources below. The matches will be best 2 out of 3, so be sure to send me both or all three of the replays. We will be using showdown's replay system to judge this, so you are not required to wait for me to spectate your matches, just battle each other whenever it works for both of you, and send me the replays. I'll be posting the replays on here as I receive them, so if you want to change up your team at any point during the competition, feel free to.
Onto prizing, we ended up with quite a generous prize pool, so anyone who makes it past the first match will receive a prize. They are as follows:
1st place: 3,360 shards
2nd place: 2,520 shards
3rd place: 1,680 shards
4th place: 840 shards
Thank you to Bubonic and Sephy for generous contributions here.
As promised, here are some resources if you're a bit confused on all this.

Sample Gen 7 OU teams - This one is really useful if you don't know what to put on your team, or if you're completely confused, you can just copy the entire team using the import/export function. Most of the teams here have descriptions for use and the reasoning behind their choices.
Showdown tips and tricks - This one has some really useful information for commands you can use during a game for information about abilities, moves, items, pokemon, etc.
Saving a replay - When the battle ends, towards the right and below the battle screen, click the share and upload replay button and send me the link.

This thread is to gauge community interest in a pokemon showdown tournament. For those of you that don't know, pokemon showdown is an online version of pokemon where trainers can very easily build teams and battle against each other.

We would be playing a single-elimination tournament for shards. I plan on fronting at least 3k shards for the prize pool, but if more people contribute then we'll be playing for a larger prize pool. I will post a tournament bracket, and each pair will be responsible for playing their own match and sending me the replay link. Prize pool distribution will be determined by the number of participants.
Current Prize Pool: 8,400 Shards
Format: Gen 7 OU (You have to build your own teams, so make sure to do this beforehand so you get a chance to practice with them)

All questions are optional, but this will help me set up the tournament.
1) Are you interested in competing?
2) If so, what is your username on showdown? (If you're new to showdown, be sure to register your username to claim it)
3) What format and gen should we play? Decided, gen 7 ou
4) One game per match or best out of three? Best out of 3, switching teams is allowed.
5) Should anyone be able to join or should there be a shard buy in? (this would increase the prize pool)
6) Any other suggestions or questions?
